If you are a Clearist, and are aiming to follow a Whole Food Plant Based lifestyle, it’s important to avoid refined sugar – white sugar, raw sugar, coconut sugar, etc. This is because:
- It is highly processed (so, is not a whole food)
- It therefore lacks fibre, and is high in calories
- Which then leads to energy spikes, and consequential energy lows
- It therefore lacks fibre, and is high in calories
I recently read a great article from the T Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies (highly reputable site) about the whys and wherefores of eating sugar, and what you can eat instead. Link here. It details all you need to know on sugar.
We all crave sweet things from time to time, so having a few sugary tricks in your arsenal is a good idea.
For us, Steve’s Carrot Cake Cookies are our main sweet go to. They use banana & dark choc drops as the binder and sweetener.
The Choc Orange Truffles are a decadent way to finish a dinner party with friends, without adding in refined sugar.
We could probably have a conversation about whether dark chocolate should be eaten, but what I will say is that we are all trying to eat the best we can, and sometimes a little dark chocolate helps along the way. Wink, wink.
Wishing you great Abundance!
