My journey started with a visit to the doctor where, for the first time in my life, she told me I had elevated blood pressure. I know from the journey of my mother, and what she has told me about my wider family, that high blood pressure is bad, and that it ran in my family. I figured it was genetic, and always stated “Heart Disease”, whenever I was asked by a doctor about conditions that ran in my family.
I followed the doctor’s advice – to try and lose weight, and reduce my salt intake. But the next time I went to see her, she once again told me that my blood pressure was high. And, worse, if I didn’t get it under control, she would need to start me on medications. My mother finds her heart medications hard to manage, and reports many unpleasant side effects, so I was keen to avoid starting them if I could!
Not long before this happened, I had met and fallen in love with a gorgeous man, Steve. My relationship history is chequered, and I was so grateful when I met my “The One”. I was 44, and Steve is older than me, so nobody was describing us as young lovers! Now that I had found him, I was keen to do everything I could to enjoy as much time as possible with him. That did not allow for heart disease to be in the picture!
I found myself quietly questioning if medication was the only path available to me. I don’t remember what lead me to look, but I found the documentary on Netflix called Forks Over Knives. Watching it blew my mind apart! Heart disease can be controlled, and even reversed, simply by eating the foods that are healthiest for us! I’ll say that again, as I’m sure you were like me, and found this hard to understand at first:
Heart disease can be controlled and even reversed simply by eating the foods that are healthiest for us!
With my new found knowledge, I embarked on a journey to learn more about Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) eating, and after four years of experience, this website is my contribution to help other people go on their own WFPB journey. WFPB can help you with so much – maintaining a health weight, feeling full of energy and creating a body that is best set up to fight disease.
The good news is that I no longer have high blood pressure. On top of that, Steve has been able to stop taking statins for his cholesterol. He used to have slightly elevated cholesterol, even when taking the drugs. He now has normal cholesterol, without drugs, after 15 years on the medications.
Please Note: I would never ask you to blindly take my word on any of the things I write about in this website. I am not a scientist, so will leave talking about the science to others. But please be assured that the science to support this way of life is real, and I will help point you in the right direction to find it, so you can learn it for yourself.
